Boulder and Colorado Springs Biggie Size Things

Both Boulder and Colorado Springs are in the top 10 metro areas with the highest number of bedrooms. 28% of Boulder homes have 4 or more bedrooms, while 33% of Colorado Springs do. 26% of Colorado homes fall into this category as well. Utah leads the nation with 40%.

The irony to all of this, is that the average household size has shrunk to 2.6 people since 1990.

Colorado Insurance Costs May Rise For Homes At Risk Of Wildfires

Is your home next to or in the Colorado forest? If so, don't be surprised if you see a rise in your insurance rates. Insurance companies are raising rates for Colorado homes that are in the red zone. This means that if your home is directly next to a forest, or is hard to reach then you most likely will see a rise in your rates. It is also speculated, that some insurance companies may require homeowners to take measures of “defense” in addition to raising rates. “We expect you to take steps if you live n a high-risk wildfire area” says Carole Walker, executive director of the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association.

McAfee Mansion Auctioned Off For $5.7 Million

Jeffrey Patrick Wu's winning bid of $5.72 million got him the McAfee mansion, a fraction of the estimated $20 million dollar value. Wu is 29 years old and a Chicago commodities trader attended Colorado Academy. He says that he plans to live in Colorado during the summer. John McAfee decided to auction off the mansion because he says he rarely visits Colorado anymore. A 29-year-old commodities trader with Colorado ties was the winning bidder Thursday for software mogul John McAfee's mountain estate near Colorado Springs. The purchase price: $5.72 million.

Lennar Homes Announces Layoffs

Lennar Homes announced that they layed off 76 workers. Lennar Homes develops 2 housing developments in Loveland.  Analysts say that the layoff pulls them out of the slowing Northern Colorado market. According to Realtor Eric Holsapple, of the Northern colorado Economic Development Corp., the recent number of builders pulling out of the Northern Colorado market has impacted the market negatively. Local builders have been having a tough time competing against national builders' incentives and pricing.

New Denver Community: KB Home Stapleton: Homes Created with Martha Stewart

KB Home (NYSE:KBH) and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. (NYSE:MSO) today announced plans to bring homes designed by Martha Stewart and built by KB Home to Denver. The project is called KB Home Stapleton: Homes Created with Martha Stewart. It is located in Denvers Stapleton neighborhood and is touted as the largest urban redevelopment project in the country. The houses range in square footage from 1,593 to 2,084 square feet and will feature 3 to 4 bedrooms and are designed exclusively for the Stapleton project. The homes will start in the mid $300s, twith 5 floor plans to choose from. Features will include porches, and front patios and porches, and of course, spacious kitchens. The communities exterior styles are inspired by Martha Stewarts homes on the eastern seaboard. Special Martha Stewart instpired enhancements will also be avaliable for interior designs and upgrades.
